If you enjoyed the romance elements in Crescent City then you'll love this trilogy. The second book is definitely the best in the series where many of my favourite characters are introduced. But stay with it – I promise you it gets so much better. Sarah J Maas does dump a lot of information about the fantasy world on you. And the owner comes to kidnap her to live at the castle as punishment. But it was actually a faerie she murdered. One day she sees a deer and can’t resist killing it to sell. She is really poor and lives with her father and two sisters. It's also perfect if you enjoy Sarah J Maas' writing style.Ī Court of Thorns and Roses is a Beauty and the Beast retelling. The ending of Crescent City - House of Sky and Breath hinted at a potential crossover between the 2 books.

Hunt I think is most similar to Rowan, but a little more carefree and less serious. Bryce is a fabulous main character with lots of sass and attitude (a la Aelin) but with a modern twist and heavy dose of sexiness. While I would not say it’s my favorite of her books yet, I do thin it holds itself as a contender. Be sure to carve out some time, as from about 60-70% on its non-stop action and completely impossible to put down. However, after you reach a certain point it’s like the story kicks into overdrive.

While it’s different enough to keep it interesting it still has very similar marks of Maas’s writing, characters, and worldbuilding.īe sure to give this book a chance as it does start off as a bit of an information dump (I alternated between reading and listening to the audiobook) and I found myself struggling to keep the different houses and places correct. Maas rocked her transition into adult fantasy and this book is sure to become a classic along with her other series!
